n, Ohio, is a little city with a big heart. Described as a “medium-sized Midwestern town,” Canton offers the amenities of larger cities with a quaintness not often found in the concrete jungle. Here is where American football was born, where President William McKinley has his memorial library, and where the National Football League's Pro Football Hall of Fame is found.

Located in eastern Ohio, Canton is about 70 miles south of Cleveland, Ohio, 130 miles east of Columbus, Ohio, and 130 miles west of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. Canton falls in the Eastern Standard Time zone and is 28 square-miles in area. On average, Canton’s hottest and wettest month is July, and its coldest month is January.

The city is located in Stark County. As an industrial town, Canton has attracted several manufacturing companies including the Timkin Co., Shearer’s Foods, Diebold and the Belden Brick Co. Parts of Canton that were once industrial are being redeveloped into retail space, and this includes the area once occupied by the Hoover Co., once a staple in the world's domestic culture for household-convenience products.

Attractions in Canton are based in agriculture, the arts, and historical study. The Alpaca Rosa bills itself as a “true alpaca farm.” The Magnolia Flouring Mills and Maize Valley Winery & Market each hold a rustic charm. There are several cultural draws in the city, such as the Amish Door Village -- a working Amish settlement with restaurant, village inn, and merchant’s area. Classic car buffs can visit the Canton Classic Car Museum, and history fans discover the Haines House, a once-active stop on the Underground Railroad.

There are several choices of lodging in Canton, Ohio. If you enjoy a personal touch, Canton offers a spate of bed and breakfasts and cozy inns, many with an historical charm. For campers and RV-ers, there are over 1,000 campsites, most with electric and water hook-ups and pull-through.
