Goodyear World of Rubber Museum: never "tire" of fun and learning!
The Goodyear World of Rubber Museum in Akron, Ohio may not seem like a place that would be tantalizing to visit. After all, who really cares about the history of rubber, right?
One peek inside the walls of this curious establishment will leave you wondering why the heck you'd never come here before. Who would have thought that learning about rubber could be so much fun?
Located inside the world headquarters of the Goodyear Company, the museum provides a fun and educational experience for all who enter. Learn about the history of auto racing and how proper tires played an integral role in its development, the role that rubber plays in each of our lives and how Goodyear made it possible for astronauts to land on the moon. You can also take a stroll through Charles Goodyear's recreated kitchen, where he discovered the vulcanization method that revolutionized the production of tires and other rubber products as we know them today.
You can also play in the rubber forest, where you'll learn how rubber sap is harvested from special trees, and learn about the history and science that goes behind the famous Goodyear blimp.
The museum is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., and admission is absolutely free. The museum welcomes classroom tours, but reservations must be made in advance.
