Canton Fishing Holes: Lovely Spots for a Relaxing Pastime

Canton fishing holes are widely found in the Stark County Park District. Varying in size, Canton fishing holes offer a range of amenities and a variety of natural settings, from cozy, lakeside gardens to sprawling hiking trails. The following locations are great for enjoying this relaxing pastime.

Cook’s Lagoon
Post up on your lawn chairs, joining a line of other fish-loving folks around the perimeter of this small, urban lagoon. Located next to Nimishillen Creek, Cook’s Lagoon is a relaxing, no-fuss way to get some fishing time, with a short trail, small gardens and picnic tables surrounding the water. Fishing is permitted from sunrise to sunset with the purchase of a fishing license.

Petros Lake Park
Petros Lake is located on a 94-acre park consisting largely of open grassland. During the warmer months, those coming to the lake to fish may also enjoy picnicking, volleyball, playing ball in the sports fields, and hiking the surrounding trails. Motorized boats are not permitted in the lake. During the colder months, unstable ice conditions make ice fishing or skating prohibited. Fishing hours at Petros Lake Park are from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

Sippo Lake Park
This 100-acre lake is filled with a variety of fish, including bluegill, carp, catfish, yellow perch and bass. Fish by boat or from the edge of lake, which is surrounded by hiking and biking trails, hundreds of acres of forest, wetlands and a variety of wildlife, including a large variety of bird species. Motorized boats above 10 HP are not permitted in the lake, and fishing hours are from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

Deer Creek Reservoir
One of the bigger lakes in the Stark County Park District, Deer Creek Reservoir is 300 acres in size. Those coming to fish may enjoy the convenience of a fishing pier and boat ramp for electric-powered boats. The bag limit for largemouth, smallmouth, spotted bass, and trout is five, and for walleye and catfish, the bag limit is six. Fishing hours vary by season, and ice fishing is permitted at each guest’s risk.
